Over 10 kg of drugs found in car compartments; police thwart smuggling from Spain

Warsaw police have thwarted a significant international drug smuggling operation, seizing over 10 kilograms of cocaine. The drugs were discovered concealed within specially constructed hidden compartments in a Renault vehicle.

The operation involved officers from the Wola district, who had been tracking the vehicle from the Polish-German border to the capital. Police made a swift arrest of two men, aged 48 and 46, in Warsaw. During a search of their car, officers found hermetically sealed packages containing the compressed, crystalline substance.

Subsequent laboratory tests confirmed the substance as cocaine, with an estimated street value of nearly 3 million Polish zloty. Investigators believe the drugs were transported from Spain to Poland. A search of the 48-year-old suspect's residence also yielded approximately 50 grams of cocaine and mobile phones used to coordinate the smuggling activities.

Both men, who have prior criminal records and have served prison time, have been charged with intra-community acquisition of significant quantities of narcotic drugs. They face a potential prison sentence of 3 to 20 years. The older suspect also faces an additional charge for possessing drugs at his home, carrying a sentence of up to 3 years. The men have been remanded in custody for three months.
