Over 147,000 Liters of Bottled Water Seized Since Mid-July in Tunisia | La Presse (TN)

Tunisian commerce and security services have confiscated more than 147,000 liters of bottled water since mid-July. The operation, involving daily interventions in the mineral water sector, targeted products involved in infractions against transaction transparency and price regulations.

Legal proceedings have been initiated against those found in violation. These actions come at a time when Tunisia experienced a significant shortage of bottled water during the latter half of July. This scarcity coincided with a severe heatwave and a surge in consumer demand.

The Syndicate of Non-Alcoholic Beverage Producers had previously attributed the supply issues to electricity cuts. These outages disrupted the operations of several production facilities, impacting the market's supply chain. The syndicate also noted that the situation led to the depletion of strategic bottled water reserves, accumulated since the previous winter, further complicating supply amid rising temperatures and demand.
