Over 180 Participate in Final Stage of Lübecker Bucht Pier Swim

More than 180 swimmers braved the waters of the Lübecker Bucht on August 8, 2026, for the fourth and final stage of the Seebrückenschwimmen series. The event concluded under sunny skies with water temperatures around 21 degrees Celsius.

The 3.2-kilometer race stretched from Haffkrug to Scharbeutz. Barbora Eller emerged victorious in the women's category, completing the course in 53 minutes and 4 seconds. Sebastian Barsch claimed first place in the men's division with a time of 41 minutes and 49 seconds.

This swimming series was launched by the Lübecker Bucht Tourism Agency as a new water sports attraction. André Rosinski, head of the agency, previously stated that the event aims to connect swimmers and visitors with the coastal towns from Rettin to Scharbeutz, combining athletic ambition with the experience of the region's beaches and piers. The series also had Sandra Völker, a multi-world champion and Olympic medalist from the region, as its patron.

While the final stage concluded successfully, an earlier stage in July from Sierksdorf to Haffkrug had to be abandoned due to a sudden drop in Baltic Sea temperatures following a storm. This resulted in hypothermia for several participants, requiring rescue services to attend to 17 individuals, four of whom were hospitalized.
