Over 32 kg of Hashish Seized in Tajikistan; Suspect Detained

Tajikistan's Drug Control Agency has arrested a 44-year-old resident of Panjakent in connection with the discovery of over 32 kilograms of hashish. The seizure occurred in early June during operational activities on a local farm.

Authorities found an initial stash containing 30 briquettes of hashish, weighing approximately 31.27 kilograms. A subsequent search, aided by a service dog named Lucky, uncovered a second stash nearby with an additional briquette weighing just over 1 kilogram. The total seized amount exceeded 32 kilograms.

The suspect is currently detained in a temporary facility. A criminal case has been initiated against him under the article concerning illegal drug trafficking in especially large quantities. If found guilty, he faces a prison sentence ranging from 12 to 20 years, along with the potential confiscation of his property.

This operation follows a similar bust in Dushanbe, where police detained individuals identified as members of a transnational drug trafficking group. During that operation, approximately 50 kilograms of hashish were seized. A criminal case was also initiated in Dushanbe under Article 200 of the Criminal Code of Tajikistan, which addresses the illegal trafficking of narcotic drugs or psychotropic substances with intent to sell, carrying a penalty of 5 to 20 years imprisonment.
