Over 56,000 children registered for first grade in Kyrgyzstan

Kyrgyzstan is preparing for the upcoming academic year with a significant number of young students set to begin their educational journey. As of April 20, 2026, over 56,700 children have been successfully registered for the first grade, based on data available on the official portal 1mektep.edu.gov.kg. This figure represents a substantial portion of the nation's youngest learners embarking on their formal schooling.

The capital city, Bishkek, has seen a considerable influx, with around 8,900 children enrolled. Within Bishkek, approximately 3,700 spots are designated for classes with Kyrgyz as the language of instruction, while over 5,200 spots are available for classes conducted in Russian. Notably, the city still has over 17,000 vacant places, indicating ample capacity for further registrations, particularly for those not adhering to the initial micro-district registration.

Across the country, regional enrollments show significant numbers, with Osh Oblast registering 11,900 children and Jalal-Abad Oblast following with 10,600. Other regions like Chuy, Batken, Issyk-Kul, Naryn, and Talas also report substantial figures. The total enrollment quota for the 2026/27 academic year nationwide stands at an impressive 192,300 students. The electronic registration process, which began on April 1, caters to children born in 2019 and 2020, with a second phase for non-resident registrations commencing on June 1.
