Over 6,900 Buildings Inspected in La Guaira Post-Earthquake; Reconstruction Underway

In the coastal state of La Guaira, authorities have inspected 6,907 buildings as part of the technical review process initiated after the earthquakes on June 24. Francisco Garcés, president of the Presidential Commission for the Evaluation of Housing Habitability and Infrastructure, reported that a color-coded system is being used to classify the safety conditions of each property.

Of the structures assessed, 3,237 were marked with a green tag, indicating they are habitable and pose no risk. Another 1,785 received a yellow tag, signifying restricted use due to damage requiring technical monitoring. Significantly, 1,885 homes were assigned a red tag, the highest classification for properties with substantial damage that necessitates a more in-depth review before deciding on necessary actions. Garcés emphasized that a red tag does not automatically mean demolition, as each case will be individually assessed for potential recovery.

Buildings tagged yellow and red will undergo a second evaluation phase to determine appropriate repair strategies based on the identified damage. The Commission has already issued initial guidelines for addressing non-structural damage to institutions involved in the "Plan Venezuela Renace." These guidelines will also be available to citizens and organizations seeking to undertake recovery work, provided they obtain the necessary permits from local authorities. Meanwhile, Jacqueline Faría, president of the "Plan Venezuela Renace," stated that 11,794 homes across the country are currently in the reconstruction phase, including single-family homes, duplexes, and apartments in multi-story buildings.

These guidelines will also be available to institutions and individuals who wish to access them through the permits they must request from the mayor's offices and governorships for repairs.
