Over 774 billion VND embezzled from Bach Dat An Company remains unrecovered

A significant sum of over 774 billion Vietnamese dong (VND), embezzled from the Bach Dat An Company, remains unrecovered, according to the Da Nang City People's Court. The court's Chief Judge, Nguyen Chi Cong, presented a report on the judicial work during the first half of 2026 at a recent session of the City People's Council.

The report detailed the handling of criminal cases, including three high-profile cases monitored by the city's anti-corruption committee. Among these was the case of Hoang Thi Kim Chau, who was found guilty of embezzlement. The court sentenced Chau to life imprisonment for embezzlement and abuse of trust, ordering her to compensate Bach Dat An Company for the more than 774 billion VND she misappropriated.

During her tenure as General Director and later Deputy General Director of Bach Dat An Company from July 2017 to August 2023, Chau exploited her position to embezzle funds by taking advances and using them for personal purposes, rendering her unable to repay the company. While the court's judgments in various cases have mandated the recovery of over 814 billion VND to be returned to the state budget or the affected entities, only approximately 29.9 billion VND has been collected to date, leaving a substantial amount still to be recovered.
