Overseas Votes Arrive at Electoral District Offices

The electoral process in Hungary is moving into its crucial final stages with the commencement of vote transfer procedures. Starting Friday morning, votes cast by Hungarians abroad at 149 foreign representations and by those who registered to vote in a different Hungarian municipality than their registered address are being delivered to the respective district electoral offices. This intricate logistical operation ensures that every vote reaches its intended destination for accurate tabulation.

These "traveling votes" were initially transported to the National Election Office (NVI) earlier in the week. There, they were meticulously sorted and grouped according to the 106 individual electoral districts. This careful segregation is vital because voters, regardless of where they cast their ballot, voted for candidates in their registered home district. The NVI has now packaged these sorted votes into transport boxes, which district electoral offices can collect from Friday onwards.

Upon receiving these boxes, the district electoral offices will hand them over to the chairpersons of the designated counting committees. These committees will then "mix" the traveling votes with the ballots cast on April 12th within the designated polling station, thereby safeguarding the secrecy of the vote. The counting committees are expected to finalize the polling station results by Saturday, after which the district electoral commissions will determine the preliminary results for each electoral district, identifying the mandate winners by Saturday at the latest. This systematic approach underscores Hungary's commitment to a transparent and secure electoral process, ensuring all legitimate votes are counted.
