Oyo abduction: S’West PDP slams Fayose over ‘reckless’ claims against Makinde

The Peoples Democratic Party's South West chapter has strongly condemned former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose for his recent allegations regarding the Oyo State abductions. Fayose had suggested that the kidnappings might have been orchestrated by Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde as a ploy to politically embarrass President Bola Tinubu.

The PDP described Fayose's statement as "reckless, insensitive and politically dangerous," asserting that it was irresponsible and exposed his "glaring double standards on insecurity, political morality and public accountability." The party's zonal publicity secretary, Chief Sanya Atofarati, criticized Fayose for using a "national tragedy" for "political mischief" at a time when Nigerians face widespread insecurity.

Atofarati further accused Fayose of hypocrisy, pointing to his alleged silence on the abduction of 16 worshippers from a church in Eda-Oniyo, Ekiti State, who have remained in captivity for over a month. He noted that Fayose did not accuse Ekiti Governor Biodun Oyebanji of negligence in that instance, despite the proximity of the incident to Fayose's hometown. Instead, Fayose reportedly continued his political tour supporting Governor Oyebanji's re-election bid.

They commended Governor Makinde's commitment to security and emphasized the need for responsible leadership, national unity, and sincere collaboration to address security challenges, rather than resorting to inflammatory allegations.
