Oyo assembly confirms Makinde’s commissioner nominee

Dr. Ladipo Taiwo has been confirmed as a Commissioner-designate by the Oyo State House of Assembly, following a nomination by Governor Seyi Makinde. The confirmation occurred during Wednesday's plenary session after the House Committee on Special Duties presented its report.

The committee, chaired by Deputy Speaker Abiodun Fadeyi, recommended Taiwo for confirmation after conducting a screening exercise. The House subsequently adopted these recommendations, unanimously approving Taiwo's appointment to the Oyo State Executive Council. This marks Taiwo's return to the council, having previously served as the Commissioner for Health under Governor Makinde's administration.

Governor Makinde had submitted Taiwo's name to the House on June 30, 2026, requesting an "usual kind and expeditious consideration" in line with constitutional provisions for appointing commissioners. The governor expressed confidence in the Assembly's ability to provide a fair and prompt screening process. The committee's report affirmed that the nominee was screened and found to be qualified, competent, and suitable for the role.
