Oyo school attack: Police dismiss rumour of curfew, movement restrictions

The Oyo State Police Command has moved to allay fears among residents by categorically denying rumors of an impending curfew or restrictions on movement within and outside Ibadan. The command emphasized that there are currently no security concerns necessitating such measures or causing widespread panic.

There is currently no restriction placed on the movement of persons or vehicles within and outside Ibadan, the state capital.

This clarification comes in the wake of apprehension among residents, which led some to hurriedly close their businesses. The fear was reportedly triggered by the abduction of teachers and students during coordinated attacks on several schools in the Oriire Local Government Area the previous Friday. The police statement aims to reassure the public and prevent unnecessary alarm.

Olayinka Ayanlade, the State Police Public Relations Officer, stated that adequate security measures are in place, with officers strategically deployed across the state to ensure the safety of all citizens. The command also issued a stern warning against the spread of false information, rumors, or unverified reports that could incite panic and distress. Individuals found engaging in such activities will face legal consequences.

The police advised the general public to disregard the misleading reports and continue their daily activities without fear. They assured that any official security directives or emergency measures would be communicated through the Office of the Police Public Relations Officer via verifiable official channels. Residents are encouraged to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and cooperative with security agencies to maintain peace and public order.
