Oyo students, teachers rescue: How security agents weakened terrorists

Thirty-nine schoolchildren and seven teachers have been freed after 56 days of captivity, following a joint operation by Nigerian security forces. The captives, abducted from three schools in Oyo state, were rescued during a coordinated effort by the Nigerian Army, police, and intelligence from the Department of State Services (DSS).

The operation resulted in the neutralization of nine terrorists and the arrest of eight others, who are now in DSS custody. A source familiar with the operation revealed that security forces strategically disrupted the terrorists' food supplies, weakening their position and aiding the rescue.

Freed captives appeared emaciated and weak in a video released by the presidential spokesman, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, but expressed immense joy and gratitude. One of the rescued teachers, Mrs. Alamu Folawe, directly thanked President Bola Tinubu and the security operatives for their commitment to their safety.

President Tinubu celebrated the successful rescue, commending the military, DSS, and police for their round-the-clock efforts. He acknowledged the anguish experienced by the families and the nation, while also thanking the Oyo State government for its cooperation.
