Oyo traffic agency replaces stolen manhole covers in Ibadan

The Oyo State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA) has begun replacing stolen metal manhole covers with durable concrete alternatives in Ibadan. This initiative aims to prevent accidents and safeguard lives across the metropolis.

The replacement work, which started on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, in the Apata area, was supervised by OYRTMA Chairman Major Adesagba Adekoya (retd.). The intervention addresses the dangers posed by open manholes and damaged road sections, which have reportedly contributed to accidents.

He explained that the concrete covers offer a more durable solution and reduce the likelihood of vandalism and theft. The agency also appealed to residents to stop vandalizing public property, emphasizing that such acts endanger innocent road users.

The Area Commander of the Oyo Police Force and the Chairman of the Okada Riders Association in Apata, Ibadan, both commended OYRTMA's timely intervention. They noted that the open manholes had led to accidents and expressed relief that the dangerous spots are being addressed, contributing to safer road environments for motorists, pedestrians, and commercial motorcyclists.
