Ozalj Premieres First Professional Adult Play: 'Grandmothers on the Fence and Underwear Above the Knees'

The Croatian town of Ozalj is set to host the premiere of its first professional theater production for adults, titled 'Babe na ogradi i gaće iznad koljena' (Grandmothers on the Fence and Underwear Above the Knees). This comedy, penned by award-winning Hana Kunić Jurjević, promises a humorous yet warm exploration of life's complexities.

The play centers on two sisters who have spent their lives trying to prove to each other how to live. Their journey, marked by attempts to reconcile or escape their lives, ultimately leads them to discover that happiness is not found solely in marriage or its avoidance. Themes of love, family, prejudice, and trust are woven into the narrative.

Ana Maria Štefanac and Ines Cvitković will portray the sisters and grandmothers in the production. The creative team includes Zdenka Novosel for costume and scenography, Linda Uran for music arrangement, and Zdenka Stupić as the language advisor. The poster design is by Lucija Ćeškić, with technical direction by Tomislav Klarić.

Produced by Pučko otvoreno učilište Katarina Zrinski Ozalj, Teatar Kofer, and SRČEKO, the premiere is scheduled for July 18 at the Etno park Ozalj. This event is part of the Ozalj Theater Summer festival, initiated three years ago by Zdenka Novosel. Admission to the premiere is free, with a contingency plan to move the event indoors to the Osnovna škola Slava Raškaj Ozalj sports hall in case of inclement weather.
