PAF Officer Who Died Saving Woman Honored with Military Burial

Group Captain Asim Tariq of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) was laid to rest with full military honors, recognizing his exceptional courage and selfless devotion in saving a woman's life.

The military's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), announced that funeral prayers for the group captain were held, attended by PAF Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Babar Sidhu and other senior officers, airmen, and members of civil society. They paid their final respects to the officer for his supreme sacrifice.

ISPR quoted Air Chief Marshal Sidhu, who stated that Tariq's sacrifice "epitomizes the finest traditions of the PAF and the Armed Forces of Pakistan." He further emphasized that the officer's actions demonstrated the commitment of PAF personnel not only to safeguarding national borders but also to protecting the lives, dignity, and honor of their fellow countrymen.

The incident took place near Air University on Sunday. Tariq, en route to Rawalpindi for an official assignment, witnessed a man forcibly pulling a woman towards his motorcycle. He intervened, and as the woman sought safety near his vehicle, the suspect opened fire on the officer. Islamabad's Inspector General of Police, Ali Nasir Rizvi, reported that the suspect was apprehended within nine hours. The IGP revealed that both the woman and the suspect worked at the same outlet, and the suspect had a history of offering the woman rides. On Sunday, after picking her up, the suspect attempted to take her to a park against her will, leading to the confrontation.
