A planned meeting of mediators in Cairo to discuss the implementation of a Gaza ceasefire agreement has been postponed due to Israeli reservations, a well-informed Palestinian source told Asharq Al-Awsat.

Israeli reservations are holding up a meeting of mediators in Cairo to discuss implementation of new understandings reached more than a week ago on the Gaza ceasefire agreement.

The ceasefire, which entered a new phase over a week ago, has seen its implementation stall. This delay is attributed to the outbreak of the Iran war and alleged Israeli violations.

As of this moment, no new date has been set for the meeting.

Mediators, including Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, had reached fresh understandings with Hamas and other Palestinian factions on arrangements to implement the second phase of the agreement. However, the crucial four-way meeting, intended to reaffirm commitment to the ceasefire, has been held up. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has yet to publicly state a clear position on the understandings, which were previously praised by US President Donald Trump as “historic.”

The Palestinian source indicated that Israel objected to the proposal on the table, preventing the meeting from taking place as scheduled last week. While a Hamas delegation remains in Egypt, no new date has been set for meetings with the four-party committee. Negotiations have slowed due to Israeli objections, particularly concerning withdrawal arrangements. The source suggested that progress hinges on American action and potential pressure from Washington on Israel.
