Palou wins in Portland, closing in on fourth consecutive title

Spanish driver Álex Palou has taken a significant step towards his fourth consecutive IndyCar championship title by winning the Grand Prix of Portland. This victory marks his sixth win of the current season and the 25th of his career in the IndyCar series.

Driving for Chip Ganassi, Palou started from second place but ultimately finished ahead of pole-sitter Felix Rosenqvist and Will Power. His dominant performance saw him lead 60 of the 112 laps. Palou, who previously won the championship in 2021 and has been the reigning champion since 2023, is now firmly in control of the standings.

Palou's success places him in elite company, becoming only the third driver in IndyCar history, alongside Mario Andretti and Sebastien Bourdais, to achieve at least six wins in two consecutive years. He expressed gratitude for his team, stating, "Everyone at Honda did a great job. It was very good to drive on every lap. Once again, great job by everyone and it's incredible to get our sixth victory of the season." He also praised his car, adding, "They give me the best guys, the best team. This car is a rocket."

With 110 points separating him from second-placed Kyle Kirkwood, Palou is in a commanding position with five races left in the season. The remaining schedule includes races in Markham, Canada; Washington D.C.; a double-header at the Milwaukee Mile oval; and the season finale at Laguna Seca in California.
