PAN demands investigation into Metepec mayor for storming sports club with armed escorts

Mexico's National Action Party (PAN) has called for a thorough investigation into Metepec Mayor Fernando Flores Fernández, following a video that appears to show him violently entering the La Asunción sports club accompanied by armed bodyguards. The party stated that no political position should serve as a shield against justice.

PAN's national leader, Jorge Romero Herrera, issued a statement asserting that any individual acting contrary to legal frameworks or abusing their public service authority must face legal consequences, regardless of their office or political affiliation. The party expects a full clarification of the events and appropriate sanctions if responsibilities are established.

President Claudia Sheinbaum has directed the Secretary of Citizen Security and Protection, Omar García Harfuch, to review the incident. She condemned the mayor's "arrogant" and "overbearing" attitude, noting that his appearance with armed individuals was inappropriate. Sheinbaum indicated that the situation would be examined under the law to determine if any offenses occurred.

The video, which circulated on June 4, reportedly shows the mayor entering the sports complex with escorts carrying long firearms. Citizen reports suggest the intrusion was aimed at confronting an individual inside the club, while municipal police allegedly secured the exterior. The display of armed security caused significant confusion and uncertainty among those present.
