PAN Leader Predicts Party Will Hold Three Governorships and Shock Morena in 2027

Jorge Romero Herrera is betting that Mexico’s National Action Party will keep three governorships and exceed expectations across the rest of the country in the 2027 elections.

After a plenary meeting with PAN senators, Romero said the party would retain control of Aguascalientes, Querétaro and Chihuahua. He also promised “the surprise of your life” in the other 14 states where voters will choose governors.

To make it crystal clear: we will also keep Aguascalientes, we will keep Querétaro, we will keep Chihuahua, and we will give you the surprise of your life in all the others.

Romero said PAN would compete with full force in all 17 states holding elections, but he stopped short of predicting how many races the party could win. He argued that it was still too early for a numerical forecast and said territorial organization and candidate selection would determine the party’s reach.

The seed of its own self-destruction is in Morena by design.

The PAN president based part of his optimism on internal disputes within Morena, the governing party. He described those conflicts as a form of self-destruction that could give the opposition room to grow during the 2027 electoral process.

“We are going to work in all of them, and you will see the surprise they will get in 2027,” Romero said. His comments set an ambitious early target for PAN, even as the party has not put a number on the governorships it expects to capture.
