Panama Canal Museum marks 29th anniversary with free admission for nationals and residents

The Panama Canal Museum will celebrate its 29th anniversary by opening its doors free of charge to Panamanian nationals and residents on Wednesday, Sept. 9.

The museum will welcome visitors from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a day focused on its exhibitions and on Panama’s history and canal heritage. The event coincides with the mid-year school holiday, and the institution is especially inviting families, students and other visitors to explore its displays.

The museum is a private, nonprofit cultural institution dedicated to researching, preserving and sharing Panama’s historical heritage. It also promotes dialogue, critical thinking and identity through contemporary museum experiences.

“Celebrating 29 years means reaffirming that this museum exists for society. We want every person to find here a space to learn about our history, discuss it and strengthen their sense of belonging,” said Ana Elizabeth González, the museum’s executive director and chief curator.

González said the free day was a way to share the anniversary with the public, which she described as fundamental to the museum’s life.
