Panama firefighters tackle over 32 emergencies amid heavy rains and winds

The Fire Department in Panama City has responded to more than 32 emergencies over the past 48 hours, primarily caused by heavy rains and strong winds battering the country. Captain Luis Joseph of the Fire Department reiterated calls for citizens to enhance preventative measures amid the adverse weather conditions.

Fallen trees have been the most common issue, posing risks to drivers, pedestrians, and residents, particularly in areas near forests and roadsides. One notable incident involved a tree falling onto power lines in the Los Pueblos sector, requiring coordination with the electric distribution company to secure the area and safely remove the obstruction.

Firefighters warn that such incidents may increase as the rains and gusts persist. They strongly advise the public to exercise extreme caution. The institution also urged citizens to stay updated on meteorological forecasts, avoid vulnerable areas during intense rainfall, and promptly report any situations that present a risk.

Panama remains under a severe weather advisory, with warnings for heavy rains and thunderstorms extending into Monday.
