Panama launches U23 National Baseball Championship

Panama has initiated its third U23 National Baseball Championship, a tournament designed to foster the development of its young baseball talent. The competition kicked off on July 16 with six teams vying for the title.

The opening match featured the Panama U18 Pre-selection against Azuero, hosted at the Mariano Rivera Baseball Academy. Other matchups included Metro versus Oeste at Rod Carew Stadium and Coclé against Occidente in La Chorrera.

This championship is more than just a contest; it's a vital step in selecting Panama's U23 national team for the World Championship in Managua, Nicaragua. Additionally, the U18 Pre-selection is using the tournament as preparation for their own World Championship qualifiers in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The U23 National Baseball Championship is organized by the Panamanian Baseball Federation to provide competitive experience for players aged 18 to 23. It aims to ease their transition to the senior league and broaden the talent pool for national teams. The tournament structure typically includes a regular season, semifinals, and a final series, ensuring ample development time for players who might otherwise have limited competitive opportunities after their junior careers.
