Panama orders provisional detention for 10 in "Filipino Mafia" case

Panama's judicial authorities have confirmed and ordered the provisional detention of 10 individuals implicated in the "Filipino Mafia" operation. This criminal organization, according to authorities, primarily operated in the Betania corregimiento. The Appeals Court upheld eight provisional detentions previously imposed and revoked house arrest for two other defendants. The court instead granted the prosecution's request for their provisional detention.

These 10 individuals will remain in provisional detention as investigations proceed. The operation, conducted by the Public Ministry and National Police, aims to dismantle the "Filipino Mafia," which allegedly had its operational hub in the Santa María area of Betania, with a presence in other sectors.

Authorities link the organization to national and international drug trafficking and several homicides. The Public Ministry will continue its efforts to establish the involvement of the accused and the full scope of the criminal structure's activities.
