Panama orders provisional detention for three citizens in migrant trafficking case

Panama's First Superior Specialized Prosecutor's Office against Organized Crime has ordered the provisional detention of three Panamanian citizens. They are allegedly linked to the aggravated crime of illicit trafficking of migrants.

During the hearing, the apprehension of the individuals was deemed legal, along with the seizure of a vehicle and $532.75 in cash found in their possession at the time of their arrest. The alleged offenses occurred on June 20, 2026, in the Higueronal sector of Tortí, Chepo province.

According to investigations, the three individuals are accused of directing, facilitating, and collaborating in the irregular departure of two Cuban migrants from Panamanian territory. Among the individuals affected by this alleged trafficking operation was an 11-year-old minor.

The Prosecutor's Office stated that these actions are part of ongoing investigations into structures dedicated to illicit migrant trafficking. Further inquiries are being conducted to clarify the events and determine the responsibility of those involved.
