Panamanian artist Arian Abadi debuts 'timba rock' with new single 'Hay Pipa Fría'

Arian Abadi, a singer, actor, and producer from Panama, is pushing musical boundaries with his latest single, "Hay Pipa Fría." He describes the song as an unprecedented fusion of timba and rock, a genre he has dubbed "timba rock," aiming to introduce Panamanian musical creativity to the world.

Abadi explained in an interview that this release represents a musical evolution he has been developing over recent years. "I started by fusing folk genres with pop rock. First, I did congo with pop, then typical [Panamanian folk music], and now we are crossing over into a more Latin American genre. I am creating a fusion that is timba with rock, meaning a very salsa-like song for dancing, but with rock," he commented.

He proudly stated that this genre is new, with "timba rock" being born in Panama. The artist's clear objective is to project Panamanian identity through music. "When I say 'we,' I'm talking about a group of Panamanian musicians and artists. We are trying to translate or present Panama to the world," Abadi affirmed. This philosophy has guided his previous work, which blended traditional rhythms with contemporary genres and featured music videos filmed in iconic Panamanian locations.

For "Hay Pipa Fría," Abadi collaborated with renowned local musicians, including percussionist Milagros Blades, pianist Gabriel Morán (who also arranged the music), and producer Dominick Moreno. "This song would not have been possible without Milagros Blades, Gabriel Morán, and Dominick Moreno. There are many minds involved, and that's what I always say: you can't get anywhere alone. I just put in the rock, they put in the timba, others put in the sound, and we did it as a family," he expressed. The track also features actress Ida María Osorio, and the music video, directed by Abadi himself, was filmed in the Siete Granos café in El Cangrejo, depicting musicians transforming the space into a lively timba and rock party.
