Panamanian athlete Jennisín Rosanía reaches No. 1 in IBJJF overall world rankings

Jennisín Rosanía has returned to the top of Brazilian jiu-jitsu, becoming the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation’s world No. 1 in the black-belt, Gi overall ranking for the second time.

The Panamanian athlete from Colón had previously reached the top during the 2023-2024 season. She now holds the position again after an exceptional campaign. Rosanía competes in the lightweight division, but her results placed her first in the overall ranking across all weights. The IBJJF presented the distinction during a ceremony honoring the best-ranked athletes of the season.

Carlos Gracie Jr., the IBJJF founder and president, presented Rosanía with the plaque. She is the first and only Panamanian athlete to reach No. 1 in the federation’s overall black-belt, Gi ranking, and she has now done so twice.

Her season included the IBJJF World Championship, European Championship, Pan Championship, Masters International North America, Orlando Open, New Year Open and Chicago Open. One of the strongest details of the campaign was that she conceded no points or advantages throughout the season, finishing the cycle undefeated.

Rosanía began practicing jiu-jitsu in January 2011. She attributes the new achievement to the team around her at Elemento Jiu Jitsu, where she trains with coach Eduardo Grimaldo, as well as to her family. “I do not feel this achievement is mine alone. Behind every competition, every training session and every result there is a team. Without my coach, without the work we do at Elemento Jiu Jitsu and without my family’s support, this result would not have been possible,” she said.
