Panamanian Students to Compete in Central American and Caribbean Chemistry Olympiad

Panama is set to host the XIX Central American and XVIII Caribbean Chemistry Olympiad, with a delegation of talented high school students ready to represent the nation. The scientific and technological competition aims to bolster academic knowledge, experimental abilities, and foster exchange among young minds across the region.

Participating delegations include students from Cuba, Honduras, Costa Rica, and El Salvador. Rolando Collins, the national supervisor for Chemistry at the Ministry of Education (Meduca), highlighted the event's importance in allowing students to test their theoretical knowledge and develop problem-solving skills applicable to everyday situations.

Carlos Ríos Martínez, president of the Caribbean Chemistry Olympiads Commission, detailed that the Panamanian representatives received intensive university-level training in organic, inorganic, analytical, and physical chemistry. This preparation is designed to equip them for the diverse challenges of the competition.

Both Gabriel Alvarado from the Cerro Viento Bilingual School and Brad Burke from the Instituto Cultural described their preparation as demanding, requiring significant effort and discipline. They expressed enthusiasm for representing Panama and connecting with peers who share their passion for science. The opening ceremony featured educational authorities, special guests, and a cultural performance.
