Panamanians Paint Toronto Red: World Cup Fans Celebrate Amidst Orderly Festivities

Toronto has transformed into a vibrant hub for Panamanian football fans during the 2026 World Cup, with an estimated 20,000 supporters flocking to the city to cheer on their national team.

The Panamanian Embassy in Canada reports an "authentic extension of the country" in Toronto, with the national flag visible everywhere. Ambassador Ricardo Alemán Alfaro noted that during the match between Panama and Ghana, approximately three-quarters of the 45,000 spectators were Panamanian.

Months of meticulous planning by the Panamanian Embassy in Ottawa and the Consulate in Toronto, in collaboration with Canadian authorities, ensured a smooth experience for the traveling fans. Diplomatic staff facilitated logistical planning and assisted travelers with immigration and visa inquiries.

Beyond the stadiums, Panamanian fans have organized numerous gatherings, including celebrations at Niagara Falls, fostering a strong sense of national pride and community. The embassy reported, "To date, there have been absolutely no serious problems affecting any Panamanian."

As Panama approaches its next match against Croatia, Ambassador Alemán expressed confidence in the team and urged continued support, emphasizing that a victory would bring them closer to advancing to the next stage of the tournament.
