Panic in Benue communities as residents report influx of suspected armed herdsmen

Fear and anxiety grip several communities in Benue State's Logo Local Government Area following reports of armed herdsmen entering the region. Residents in Tombo, Mbagber, and Ukemberegya/Tswarev Council Wards have raised alarms, alleging that the herders are attacking farmers and destroying farmlands with their cattle. A local community leader, speaking anonymously, stated that the presence of these armed herders has heightened anxiety, with many fearing a deterioration of the security situation if swift action is not taken. The leader also reported that another group of armed herders has crossed the River Benue, positioning themselves in areas that could threaten towns like Ayilamo, Anyiin, and Iorza. He urged security agencies to intervene before any attacks occur, emphasizing the community's fear of further violence, especially as farmers anticipate the yam harvest. The appeal is directed at the federal and Benue State governments, as well as security agencies, to reinforce security and implement proactive measures to safeguard lives and protect farmlands.
