Panic in Spanish resort as wildfire forces evacuations

Panic erupted in a Spanish resort area as a wildfire forced the evacuation of nearly 200 people. The blaze, fueled by wind, spread rapidly through the villages of Los Gareso and Lageso in Murcia, southern Spain, coming dangerously close to homes.

The initial assumptions suggest that the fire was intentionally set.

Tourists and residents fled as flames consumed the landscape, with thick, yellowish-gray smoke blanketing the sky. Witnesses reported seeing flames spread across the park, prompting over 200 calls to emergency services. Over 300 firefighters, rescue personnel, and soldiers, along with water-dropping planes and helicopters, were deployed to combat the inferno.

The fire has scorched approximately 110 hectares of land, and one person has been hospitalized with burns. Authorities are investigating the cause, with initial indications suggesting the fire may have been deliberately set. A local resident described the scene as terrifying, with the sky completely gray and smoke visible from a distance, emphasizing the proximity of the fire to numerous residential areas.
