Pantheon AI project in Croatia secures key energy approval, advancing multi-billion euro data center plan

The ambitious Pantheon AI project, which plans to build a 1-gigawatt data center in Topusko, Croatia, has taken a significant step forward with the Croatian Transmission System Operator (HOPS) confirming the regulatory and technical feasibility of its energy supply. HOPS has accepted Pantheon AI's Elaborate optimalnog tehničkog rješenja priključenja (EOTRP), a detailed technical plan for grid connection. This acceptance is a prerequisite for further spatial planning and obtaining location and construction permits, effectively moving the project into its final phase of energy supply establishment. The project, valued in the tens of billions of euros, includes the construction of energy and other infrastructure exceeding 500 million euros. This encompasses 280 kilometers of new power lines, a state-of-the-art 400 kV substation in Topusko, roads, and optical infrastructure. Pantheon AI highlighted that this infrastructure will be transferred to the Republic of Croatia for management and permanent ownership, thereby strengthening the Croatian power grid for generations. This enhancement will also enable the connection of over 5 GW of renewable energy producers currently limited by grid capacity. "The realization of the Pantheon AI project will significantly accelerate the development of the planned Croatian power grid and significantly increase HOPS's revenue," Pantheon AI stated. The company emphasized the project's unique nature, combining Croatian expertise, American capital, and strategic partners like Končar and Greenvolt. Mario Gudelj, the project lead, noted that Pantheon AI offers multi-level benefits for Topusko, Croatia's energy infrastructure, and its investment attractiveness, with support from the Ministry of Economy and HEP d.d. The project is expected to position Croatia as a hub for future technologies and a destination for world-class investments, fostering economic development and high-value domestic jobs.
