PAOK's Europa League hopes hit by Anderlecht defeat

PAOK suffered a demoralizing 0-1 home defeat to Anderlecht in the first leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie. The Greek club conceded a goal just 17 seconds into the match, leaving them with a significant disadvantage heading into the return leg in Brussels.

The early goal came from a defensive lapse, with Zivkovic failing to clear the ball properly, allowing Cvetic to score for the Belgian side. Despite the shock, PAOK attempted to respond immediately, with Zafeiris having a chance in the 10th minute, but his shot went wide. Zivkovic also missed another opportunity in the 16th minute.

Throughout the first half, PAOK dominated possession and created numerous chances. Konstantelias showcased an impressive individual effort, dribbling past three defenders before setting up Taison, whose shot narrowly missed the post. Later, PAOK was awarded a penalty after Konstantelias was fouled. Michailidis took the spot-kick, and although he scored on the rebound after the goalkeeper saved it, the goal was disallowed by VAR due to an early encroachment into the box by another PAOK player.

The intensity rose as PAOK players and fans protested the referee's decisions, particularly after another penalty appeal for Konstantelias was denied, with VAR ultimately ruling a foul against PAOK. In the second half, PAOK continued to push for an equalizer, but the tempo slowed.
