Paolini and Kostyuk reach Wimbledon quarterfinals; Federer watches on

Elise Mertens continued her strong form, defeating Marie Bouzkova in the round of 16. The Belgian veteran, who turned 30 this year, expressed her delight at finally reaching the Wimbledon quarterfinals after multiple previous attempts. She will face Linda Noskova in the next round. Noskova, a young Czech talent, overcame American Madison Keys to match her best Grand Slam performance.

In the other quarter of the draw, Ukrainian Marta Kostyuk will face Italian Jasmine Paolini. Kostyuk, a semifinalist at the French Open, has been in impressive form, winning 20 of her last 21 matches. She defeated American Ashlyn Krueger to reach this stage. Paolini, a former Wimbledon finalist, ended the surprising run of Filipina Alexandra Eala, who had previously eliminated the defending champion. Notably, eight-time Wimbledon champion Roger Federer was in attendance to watch Paolini's match.
