Paper Windmill’s ‘Baoli Comes Home’ brings free environmental theater to Pingtung

Paper Windmill’s ‘Baoli Comes Home’ will bring a free outdoor theater experience to Pingtung, inviting families to explore environmental issues through a story filled with songs, dance and adventure.

The first performance will begin at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12 on the lawn in front of the Pingtung County Stadium. A second show is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Oct. 9 at Renhe Elementary School in Linbian Township.

The production blends environmental sustainability with Hakka language and cultural elements, songs, dance and interactive props. It turns themes including climate, the natural environment and the growth of life into theatrical language that children can easily understand.

The story centers on Baoli, the youngest daughter of a family of typhoons. To complete her coming-of-age task, she travels alone to Tung Blossom Island, which is facing a severe drought. After an accident causes her to lose the outer circulation of the typhoon, she cannot find her way home. On the island, she meets a girl named Manmei and a squirrel, then joins local residents as they face one challenge after another.

Pingtung officials said the performances aim to encourage appreciation of the arts while helping children understand the importance of environmental sustainability through laughter and adventure.
