Papua New Guinea to establish national combat sports authority

Papua New Guinea is set to establish a unified national Combat Sports Authority, a move championed by legendary kickboxing pioneer Stanley "The Headhunter" Nandex. The initiative aims to bring professional regulation to various combat sports within the country, including kickboxing, boxing, and mixed martial arts (MMA).

Nandex revealed that a bill is being prepared for submission to Parliament to officially recognize the Papua New Guinea Combat Sports Authority. He emphasized the critical need for a central regulatory body to manage key aspects of professional combat sports. This includes overseeing professional licensing, ensuring fair athlete contracts, enforcing stringent health and safety standards, and managing revenue generation effectively.

"We are trying to put a bill to the government to have the PNG Combat Sports Authority recognised," Nandex stated. He elaborated that the authority would function as a professional entity responsible for all facets of the sports, from contracting and licensing to implementing regulations, conducting drug testing, and ensuring fighters have access to health insurance. The ultimate goal is to provide sustained support and protection for athletes.

According to Nandex, a unified authority will streamline the support system for athletes, helping to transform raw national talent into a well-managed and sustainable industry.
