Paraglider survives mid-air collision with plane in Austrian Alps

A paraglider in the Austrian Alps narrowly escaped serious injury after a small airplane collided with her sail during a flight. The 44-year-old woman was paragliding from the Schmittenhöhe mountain, approximately 2,000 meters above sea level, when the aircraft suddenly struck her equipment.

Video footage shared by the woman, who goes by Sabrina, shows the airplane approaching at high speed just meters above her before tearing into the lines of her paraglider. She plummeted toward the ground, frantically attempting to deploy her emergency parachute. Despite the turbulent descent, she successfully activated the parachute and landed in a nearby wooded area.

"I still can't believe I'm sitting here writing this and that, apart from a few bruises and scrapes, I came out unscathed," Sabrina wrote on social media, expressing her disbelief at surviving the near-fatal encounter.

The pilot of the small, three-seater plane, a 28-year-old man, was reportedly on a sightseeing tour. He stated that he was unable to maneuver away from the paraglider in time. The pilot was unharmed when he later landed at a nearby airport. Police have launched an investigation into the collision.
