Paraglider Survives Plane Collision in Austrian Skies

A paraglider in Austria narrowly escaped serious injury after colliding with a small plane mid-flight. The incident occurred in Piesendorf, located in the Pinzgau region of Austria, when a Cessna 172 aircraft struck the paraglider, severely damaging her equipment and forcing an emergency descent.

Sabrina, a 44-year-old paraglider from Upper Austria, managed to deploy her emergency parachute, allowing her to land safely with only bruises and contusions. Video footage of the dramatic encounter quickly went viral on social media. "I still can't believe I'm sitting here writing this and that, apart from some severe bruises and contusions, nothing really happened to me."

The pilot of the Cessna 172, a 28-year-old man from Tyrol, was also able to return to the Zell am See airport without incident. He had reportedly been conducting a scenic flight over the Alps. Initial reports suggested the paraglider was performing a light aerial maneuver, but a police spokesperson later clarified that she was flying in a straight line when the plane, approaching from behind, impacted her paraglider.

Rescue teams stated that the outcome, with no serious injuries, was largely due to luck. Sabrina landed on a forest path and was subsequently airlifted to the airport. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by Austrian authorities, who confirmed she received medical attention for minor injuries.
