Paraguay Dispatches 50 Tons of Humanitarian Aid to Earthquake-Hit Colombia

Paraguay announced Saturday it will send 50 tons of humanitarian aid to Colombia to help alleviate the emergency caused by a magnitude 7.4 earthquake that struck the country last Monday. The tremor has resulted in 294 deaths and left approximately 115,461 people displaced.

Paraguayan President Santiago Peña oversaw the aid shipment at the Silvio Pettirossi International Airport. "All our appreciation, all our support to the Colombian people. Paraguay is a grateful country, and Colombia has historically always been a brotherly people to Paraguay," Peña stated in a video shared on social media. He made the announcement on his third anniversary as president.

The aid package comprises medicines, medical supplies, and non-perishable food items. It is set to be delivered to Medellín, where collection centers are established to distribute donations. The Paraguayan presidency highlighted the deep historical friendship between Colombia and Paraguay, referencing Colombia's support following the War of the Triple Alliance in the 19th century.
