Paraguay dreams of another Olympic beach volleyball qualification

Paraguay’s Olympic beach volleyball dream begins again in João Pessoa, Brazil, where four national pairs will compete for a place at the Los Angeles 2028 Games.

The South American qualifier brings together the region’s leading pairs and offers one Olympic berth. Paraguay will field two women’s teams and two men’s teams, hoping to repeat the historic achievement of Paris 2024, when the country qualified for the Olympics in beach volleyball for the first time.

Denisse Álvarez and Fiorella Núñez will face Ecuador at 3:40 p.m. Paraguay time, followed by a match against Brazil at 9 p.m. They will complete the group stage against Argentina and Ecuador on Friday. Olympic pair Michelle Valiente and Giuliana Poletti will open against Colombia at 2:50 p.m. and later play Venezuela.

In the men’s competition, Jorge Riveros and Guliano Massare will begin against Peru, then face Uruguay and Brazil. Gonzalo Melgarejo and Matías Yegros will also start against Peru before playing Venezuela, with Argentina scheduled for Friday.

For Paraguay, the tournament offers another chance to send beach volleyball back to the world’s biggest sporting event. Four pairs will pursue the same goal under the national flag: another Olympic qualification.
