Paraguay ministry to offer 10,000 kilos of beef for Father's Day, plans wider fair expansion

The Paraguayan Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) is launching a special "Carnicería Che Rúpe Guarã" (Butcher Shop in Your Home) event on June 10 in Asunción, offering 10,000 kilos of beef at prices lower than the local market average. This initiative aims to make beef more accessible to consumers, especially given recent high prices.

The event, held at the Costanera in Asunción, will begin at 7:30 AM and continue until the stock is depleted. It is a collaboration with Cárnicos MM and Carnicería Don Miguel. Available cuts include lomo for G. 62,000 per kilo, carnaza blanca for G. 42,000, and first-grade ribs for G. 36,000.

MAG Minister Carlos Giménez stated that there is growing consumer demand to expand these meat fairs to more neighborhoods and departments. The ministry has already begun replicating the model in other parts of the country, with Concepción being the first department to host such an event. Giménez indicated that future fairs will include beef and other animal proteins, with plans to assess demand for further expansion.

The meat fair initiative first began during Holy Week and has seen subsequent successful editions, including one for Mother's Day. While MAG initially approached the Paraguayan Rural Association (ARP) for support, progress was limited. The ministry is now focused on structuring and planning these activities to gradually increase the regional supply of affordable meat.
