Paraguay parents accuse teacher of psychological abuse and poor teaching

Parents of eighth-grade students at the Colegio Nacional Rigoberto Caballero in San Ignacio, Misiones, have lodged formal complaints against a teacher, alleging psychological mistreatment and deficiencies in her teaching approach. The accusations center on an environment of fear and confusion that students reportedly experienced in her classroom.

According to Carolina Mosqueda, one of the mothers leading the complaint, the issues began in late May or early June. Students started voicing their difficulties in understanding the teacher's explanations and expressed apprehension about attending her class. The parents initially approached the school administration and later the pedagogical supervision, emphasizing they sought improved teaching methods rather than the teacher's dismissal.

Mosqueda detailed instances where the teacher allegedly interrogated students about which parents had attended meetings with the administration, which the parents viewed as intimidation. Students were reportedly reluctant to ask questions or participate, fearing negative reactions. The teacher allegedly reprimanded students for not understanding, sometimes asking classmates to explain the material, further increasing student anxiety.

Following a recent meeting, the teacher has been temporarily removed from the specific grade involved in the complaint. Mónica Giménez, another parent, highlighted that the core issue was the teacher's pedagogical method, stating, "There are demanding teachers, but with good treatment. The problem was that when a student said they didn't understand, the response was 'that's wrong,' without explaining why or teaching again." Educational authorities have activated protocols and are conducting an investigation, with classroom camera footage reportedly being reviewed as part of the evidence.
