Paraguay promoted to Billie Jean King Cup Group I Americas

The Paraguayan women's national tennis team has earned a promotion to Group I of the Billie Jean King Cup Americas Zone. This significant achievement came after their victory over the Dominican Republic in the final match of the tournament held in Luque.

The decisive doubles match saw Paraguay's Leyla Brítez Risso and Paulina Franco Martinesi defeat the Dominican duo Julianny De La Cruz and Ana Carmen Zamburek. Both sets went to tie-breaks, with the Paraguayan pair ultimately winning 7-6(6) and 7-6(2).

Earlier, Paraguay's top player, Leyla Brítez Risso, had secured the first point for her team by defeating Ana Carmen Zamburek 2-0 in singles. Although the Dominican Republic managed a win in another singles match, Paraguay's doubles victory sealed their promotion.

Guatemala also secured a promotion to Group I, having previously defeated Paraguay in the group stage. Meanwhile, Honduras and Puerto Rico were relegated. Puerto Rico, having lost all three of its matches, will move down to Group III of the Americas Zone.
