Paraguay's biodiesel reaches Singapore as exports expand to new markets

Paraguay is broadening its international presence as its products gain traction in less common markets, with a report from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce's Rediex highlighting new export successes in the first seven months of 2026. Rediex defines a new "product-destination" export as one exceeding US$50,000 that had not previously reached that threshold between 2019 and 2025.

The most significant of these new trade flows is Paraguayan biodiesel reaching Singapore for the first time, totaling US$5.5 million. This operation is considered the principal new product-destination flow identified in the period.

Massimiliano Corsi, president of the Paraguayan Chamber of Biocombustibles and Renewable Energies (Biocap), emphasized the importance of this export. "From the industry's perspective, exporting Paraguayan biodiesel to Singapore for the aforementioned value was a very important event, demonstrating that Paraguay can transform raw materials into renewable energy and compete internationally," he stated. Corsi added that beyond the economic value, the shipment serves as validation of Paraguay's industrial capabilities and sets a precedent for entering other markets, especially given Singapore's rigorous international quality and technical standards.

The Biocap sector aims for these operations to foster long-term commercial relationships rather than remaining isolated shipments. Europe continues to be a key market due to its demand for transport decarbonization and opportunities linked to the Mercosur agreement.
