Paraguay's Women's 3x3 Team Suffers Losses in FIBA Series Opener

The Paraguayan women's 3x3 basketball team, known as 'Las Panteras,' experienced a challenging start to their campaign in the FIBA 3x3 Series, losing both of their opening matches held in Azerbaijan over the weekend. The team is competing in this circuit as part of their qualification efforts for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

In their first game, Paraguay faced Egypt in a closely contested match, ultimately losing by a single point, 12-11. Following this narrow defeat, the team then encountered Slovenia, who proved to be the stronger opponent, securing a decisive victory with a score of 19-8. These results place Paraguay in a difficult position early in the tournament.

Despite the losses, the experience is considered valuable for the Paraguayan players, some of whom, like Paola Ferrari and Marta Peralta, have significant international experience, alongside others from a different generation such as Paloma Niz and Ximena Ibarra. The team is preparing for subsequent stages of the competition.

Paraguay's next commitments will take them to Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on June 25 and 26, followed by tournaments in Xiantao, China (July 3-4), Cáceres, Spain (July 10-11), and a return to Baku, Azerbaijan (July 19-20). The team aims to gain experience and improve their standing in the upcoming events.
