Paraguay's World Cup qualification inspires a wave of new songs for 'La Albirroja'

Paraguay's return to the FIFA World Cup after a 16-year absence has sparked a wave of musical creativity, with artists releasing a variety of songs to support the national team, known as 'La Albirroja.' This surge in artistic expression aims to capture and amplify the nation's passion for football.

The musical tributes cover a wide spectrum of genres, from traditional Paraguayan sounds to contemporary styles like cumbia, reggaeton, rock, punk, and ska. This diversity reflects the broad appeal of the team and the collective hope it has reignited among citizens. Songs like 'Albirroja Mbareté,' a collaboration featuring multiple artists and a Paraguayan harpist, blend contemporary sounds with traditional elements to convey identity, hope, and national pride.

Several notable releases include Kchiporros' ska-infused remix of the classic 'Adelante, Albirroja, Adelante,' originally composed in 1956. Musician César Cipolla presented 'Albipasión,' a percussion-heavy track celebrating the team's fervor. Humbertiko and Urbanos, alongside La Nueva Banda, released 'Canchita de barrio,' a song with batucada, cumbia, and rap elements that imagines the childhoods of national team stars, highlighting their sacrifices.

Other contributions include Talento de Barrio's cumbia villera track 'Albirroja te amo de verdad (Que de la mano de Alfaro),' which celebrates the enthusiasm surrounding the team under coach Gustavo Alfaro. Marilina, La K y la B, and Bils Mc collaborated on 'Ñande Selección pe Guarã,' a cumbia and rap fusion expressing love for the country and the team. The rock group Flou also released a new version of their hit 'A tu lado' titled 'A tu lado - Versión Albirroja.'
