Paraguay Under Storm Alert: Thunderstorms, Heavy Rain, and 80 km/h Winds Forecast

Paraguay's Directorate of Meteorology and Hydrology (DMH) has issued an updated severe weather alert as a storm system advances across the country. The forecast warns of intense rains, frequent lightning, and wind gusts that could reach up to 80 km/h for Friday afternoon.

The storm system continues its advance over the national territory, and mainly affects the Oriental region and the sectors of the center and south of the Occidental region.

The storm system is primarily affecting the Oriental region and the central and southern sectors of the Occidental region. The special bulletin details that the temporal will bring accumulated rainfall between 20 and 50 millimeters, strong and frequent electrical discharges, and the occasional fall of hail. Wind gusts are also expected to be significant.

Ten departments are currently under the alert: Concepción, San Pedro, Cordillera, Caaguazú, Alto Paraná, Amambay, Canindeyú, Presidente Hayes, southern Alto Paraguay, and eastern Boquerón. Meteorologist Aracely Fernández indicated that the probability of rain is expected to persist in much of the country over the weekend, with scattered showers and temporary improvements.

The storm will arrive with accumulated rainfall between 20 and 50 millimeters, strong electrical discharges with high frequency, and the occasional fall of hail. Gusts could reach 80 km/h.

Forecasters also anticipate dense fog in many parts of the country during the early morning hours of Saturday and Sunday. Minimum temperatures are expected to range between 16 and 20°C, while maximum temperatures will hover between 23 and 28°C.
