Paraguayan Artisan Crafts 18 Hand-Carved Trophies for Rally Codasur Cordillera 2026

César Andrés Mendoza González, an artisan from Tobatí, Paraguay, has meticulously crafted 18 unique trophies for the Rally Codasur Cordillera 2026. Each piece is entirely handmade, serving as a testament to the rich cultural heritage and artisanal traditions of the Cordillera department.

Mendoza González employed ancestral wood carving techniques, utilizing noble woods such as cedar, palo santo, and guatambú. These materials are traditionally used in Paraguayan religious imagery and crafts. The design subtly incorporates the map of the Cordillera department, with the natural tones of the wood evoking the colors of the Paraguayan flag without overpowering the inherent beauty of the materials.

The trophies feature an incorporated flag and base, both crafted from guatambú and palo santo, emphasizing the rally's identity and the value of Paraguayan woods. To maintain their authenticity, the pieces are finished with a natural beeswax coating. This approach highlights the artisan's commitment to preserving the natural essence of the wood and traditional craftsmanship.

This initiative, funded by the Governorate of Cordillera, represents a significant recognition of Tobatí's artisans and aims to elevate the cultural significance of the Cordillera region on an international stage. By commissioning local talent for a major motorsport event, the project not only awarded competitors but also provided greater visibility for Cordilleran craftsmanship, particularly the artistry originating from Tobatí.
