Senator Celeste Amarilla of the Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA) launched sharp criticisms against Horacio Cartes, labeling him "arrogant" following Camilo Pérez's victory in the National Republican Association (ANR) primaries. Reacting to Cartes's assertion that Pérez's victory represented the worst scenario for the opposition candidate, Amarilla invoked a quote from Nicanor Duarte Frutos, a fellow Colorado Party member, who said "arrogance is the beginning of defeat." She criticized the PLRA for prioritizing vote acquisition over ideological clarity, likening their strategy to being a "Chinese copy of the Colorados" without the necessary resources.
