Paris and surroundings only areas in France under orange heat alert

Paris and parts of its environs are the only areas in France currently under an orange alert for heat, the second-highest warning on a four-tier scale. Météo France reported that temperatures on Saturday could climb as high as 35 degrees Celsius, which is 14 degrees above the average for this time of year.

Across the rest of the country, the northeast and southeast are under a yellow alert, the third-highest level. "On Saturday, the heatwave will continue to recede in the west, while it will remain very hot from the Center to the Northeast and in the Rhone Valley. On Sunday, high temperatures will be limited to the PACA region (southeast) and eastern Languedoc-Roussillon, with the end of this heatwave episode expected," Météo France stated in its bulletin.

This early and intense heatwave has persisted throughout the week, bringing tropical-level nighttime minimum temperatures. Paris recorded a low of 22.9°C overnight, while Marseille saw 21.7°C. The orange alert specifically covers the capital and its densely populated metropolitan area, including the departments of Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, and Val-de-Marne.

According to Météo France, the end of the day could bring strong thunderstorms. Paris is also scheduled to host several major events on Saturday, including a concert by artist Aya Nakamura at the Stade de France, the Roland Garros tennis tournament, and a potential street celebration if PSG wins the Champions League final.
