Paris Saint-Germain claims Super Cup title against Aston Villa

Paris Saint-Germain secured their second consecutive UEFA Super Cup title, narrowly defeating Aston Villa 2-1 in a hard-fought match in Salzburg. The French champions, fresh off their Champions League success, extended their dominance in the competition, continuing a trend that has seen the Champions League winner prevail in 13 of the last 14 Super Cup finals.

Despite Aston Villa having a slight edge in chances and possession, PSG's offensive prowess ultimately made the difference. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a decisive strike. Aston Villa managed to equalize just before halftime through a goal from 17-year-old striker Brian Madjo in the 45th minute, bringing hope to the English side.

However, PSG regained the lead in the second half with a goal from Desire Doue in the 61st minute. The victory was somewhat fortunate for PSG, as Aston Villa had created more opportunities throughout the match. For Aston Villa manager Unai Emery, this marks his fourth European Super Cup final loss, leaving the club's 1983 triumph as their only success in this particular competition.

PSG coach Luis Enrique opted to start with several players who had recently returned from international duty, including Achraf Hakimi, Desire Doue, and Warren Zaire-Emery, despite limited training time. Aston Villa, meanwhile, faced squad challenges but started the game strongly. The match, watched by 27,681 spectators, was a lively affair that ultimately saw PSG lift the coveted trophy once more.
